Julia’s Favorite Shea Butter Deo Recipe

Natural Shea Butter Deodorant

In my pursuit of healthy armpits, I finally stumbled upon a natural homemade deodorant recipe that works. What I like most about it is that it takes 5 minutes to make and only requires 3 ingredients.

I did find in the process that pure baking soda works pretty well. Some people get a rash from baking soda, so test this on a small area of skin first.

Shea Butter Deodorant Ingredients

I’ve kept this recipe very simple. It’s been developed with experimentation over the years. Follow this ratio in whichever quantity you choose.

  • 1 part baking soda (you can add a little more if you prefer your deo to be more solid)

  • 1 part shea butter

  • 1 part coconut oil

  • Essential oils (optional) I like camomile or sandalwood. Lavender and tea tree are naturally antibacterial and are popular choices with family and friends.

Shea Butter Deodorant Instructions

  1. Melt shea butter and coconut oil in a double boiler over medium heat until barely melted or combine oils in a quart size glass mason jar with a lid and place this in a small saucepan of water until melted. This will save your bowl and you can designate this jar for these type of projects and not even need to wash it out.

  2. Remove from heat and add baking soda.

  3. Mix well.

  4. Add essential oils and pour into a glass container for storage. Your mixture will become creamy once cooled.
